The connection between Gypsies and the Tarot

Romani mythology is the myth, folklore, religion, traditions, and the legend of the Romani people, sometimes referred to as Gypsies.

The Gypsy were a nomadic culture which were thought to have originated during the Middle Ages. They migrated widely, particularly to Europe. Some legends say that certain Romani used to have psychic powers, such as precognition.

Many other legends surrounded Gypsies, such as the ability to levitate and even the ability to Astral travel by way of meditation!

Some of the rumours that had accompanied the Gypsy-folk, were that they had the ability to invoke either strong curses, or beautiful blessings over people and crops. It was believed that they could conjure up spirits, and even channel the dead...

Some Gypsies were strongly believed to have had the gift of Precognition, either through vivid dreams, or with the help of the Tarot Deck. This alleged future vision or future sight was thought to be just one of the special psychic abilities that the Gypsies had been bestowed with in order to see events that lay deep into the future.

Fortune telling leaned more towards the older old Gypsy women, and they would usually predict the future by randomly selecting and interpreting a deck of normal playing cards, known as the art of Cartomancy. But this was no easy accomplishment, as 21 cards were used in one, single Gypsy Reading.

This foreknowledge of an event that Gypsies had supposedly possessed over, was later years strengthened with the help of their own, specialized Tarot Deck, known as the Tzigane Tarot. The Gypsy's extrasensory perception arose from a place where they were able to read and fully understand the meanings and the principles behind each one of the Tarot Cards. Their ability to convey these messages from the Cards to the people, gave them the unique advantage in the subject of seeing the future, and so therefore they were able to assist, but most of all, able to guide those people in the communities that needed their help the most.
